Amy stretched. It was something she'd missed doing when she was a rat. She reached over and turned on the CD player. "No, don't want to hear 'World in My Eyes' or "Sweetest Perfection'. Ah, this one," she muttered, turning the volume up loud. [Your own personal Jesus Someone to hear your prayers Someone who cares Your own personal Jesus Someone to hear your prayers Someone who's there] The knock on the door interrupted her reverie. "Xander. What are you doing here?" "Wanted to say good-bye before you went to Los Angeles," he said, leaning in the doorway. She nodded. "Why?" "It felt right, I guess. Besides, when you weren't a rat you were nice to be around. And you did cast that spell for me." "But it backfired," she pointed out. "It's the thought that counts." [Feeling unknown And you're all alone Flesh and bone By the telephone Lift up the receiver I'll make you a believer] She smiled and noticed his hand was behind his back. "What are you hiding?" "A going away present," he said with a smile, handing it to her. Unwrapping the wrapped object, she saw a training wheel. "In memory of your time as a rat." She smiled and kissed his cheek softly. "Thank you." "No problem," he said, smiling slightly at her. [Take second best Put me to the test Things on your chest You need to confess I will deliver You know I'm a forgiver] He watched her pack for a few minutes, unsure of what to say. Finally, he asked, "Need help?" She nodded and pointed to the closet. "I need that stuff taken out of the closet, if you want. And you can help me pack." He walked over to the closet and started pulling things out and laying them on the bed. "Where are you going to stay in Los Angeles?" "I'm sharing an apartment with Cordelia, actually." She looked up to see his reaction. "I thought she'd be going to England with Wesley," he said quietly, with a small amount of bitterness. [Reach out and touch faith Reach out and touch faith Your own personal Jesus...] Amy reached over and took his hand, and he looked at her with a surprised expression on her face. "You're still upset over her, aren't you?" "Upset? No. More like hurt over the way it ended." Amy nodded. "I can tell," she said, still holding his hand. "Can you?" "Yeah. I can tell a lot just by looking at you." [Feeling unknown And you're all alone Flesh and bone By the telephone Lift up the receiver I'll make you a believer I will deliver You know I'm a forgiver] He looked over to her, the bed between them. "Like what?" She swallowed a little. "Well, you're strong, and gentle too. You...have a good...a good...smile." He rewarded that with a smile, snd noticed her blushing suddenly. "No need to be nervous around me," he said, letting go of her hand and moving his hand to brush her cheek lightly. "Really?" she asked quietly. She would have said more but Xander leaned over and kissed her lightly. [Reach out and touch faith Your own personal Jesus Reach out and touch faith] Pulling back, he smiled. "So, which going away present did you like best?" She looked at him. "Actually...I'm thinking of having that first gift be a welcome back to humanity and Sunnydale one. And that second...maybe an incentive to stay?" "How did you guess?" he said, brushing her cheek again. Her brought his lips to her hand and kissed it lightly. "Because of the look you gave me when I kissed you on the cheek." "Then you'll stay?" She smiled, walked around the bed and into his embrace. "I'll stay." "Good. By the way, I have one question." "What?" she asked, happy when his arms tightened around her waist. "Why did you play that particular song?" She laughed and shrugged simultaneously. "I don't know. I guess I just liked it. Why?" "Well, I was playing that song on the way over here." She pulled back with a smile on her face. "Really? Then I guess it's our song." "Yes, I guess it is," he replied, closing the distance between them to kiss her again.
