AND before his very eyes stood one of the most beautiful women he'd ever seen. She had long auburn hair, dark green eyes, and creamy white skin. She was wearing dark blue tank and khaki cutoffs. Dawson couldn't help but gaze at the lovely being standing in his doorway. "Are you Dawson Leery?" the girl asked in a clear, almost lucid voice. "Yes...I am," Dawson replied, struggling to make his voice work. "Good, then I came to the right place. My name's Heather. My father instructed me to come here and request your presence at a dinner we're having at our house on Friday evening. The dinner will be held immediately after the awards ceremony. Since you are winning an important award, my father would like to congratulate you personally," Heather said, not once taking her eyes off Dawson. "Who's...who's your father?" Dawson stammered. "Well he's a world renowned film director. Actually he told me not to tell you exactly who he was but to give you three clues as to his identity," Heather answered. "Dawson? Who's that at the door?" Joey called out from upstairs. "Who's that?" Heather asked. "That's my best friend Joey. Jo come down here! I want you to meet someone," Dawson yelled back. Joey came bounding down the stairs in white shorts and a purple bikini top. Dawson gave her a huge smile and said, "Joey I'd like you to meet Heather. Heather this is Joey," Dawson said all the while smiling. "It's a pleasure," Heather replied. 'Yeah, me too," Joey stuttered. Joey look at her rather skeptically. "Oh I about forgot. The clues," she said as she pulled a piece of paper out of her pocket. "First a tooth. Second Reeses' Pieces. And last a big ship." Dawson looked at Heather in a perplexed way. "A tooth, Reeses' Pieces, and a ship. What do they mean?" "Let's just say they're all connected to my father. I'll let you think on it and if you come up with an answer call me. Here's my number," Heather said as she pulled her business card out of her pocket. "It also has directions to my house on it for Friday. Just in case you get lost. Alright?" Heather's dark green eyes burned into Dawson like hot fire. "Ye...ah," Dawson managed to stammer out. "What's this about Friday?" Joey asked rather cynically. "My father invited Dawson over for dinner after the awards ceremony. You're welcome as well. I presume you two are going together?" Heather inquired. "Oh yeah, we are," Joey replied in a confident tone. "Well then, that settles it. Look I better be going. Not that I have to be anywhere it's just that I feel I've interrupted something. And besides I brought the boat and it'll take me longer to get back. Nice to meet you, both of you," Heather said with a smile, mainly looking in Dawson's direction. "See you on Friday," with that she turned and started to walk away. "Hey wait up!" Did you say a boat?" Dawson asked. "Yeah. Why?" Heather replied in a curious voice. "Well Joey and I were planning to go sailing today but we don't have a boat so..." Dawson's voice trailed off. "So could you borrow mine. Is that what you're asking?" "Actually, yeah I was," Dawson replied with a smile. "Alright. Come on." As the three of them walked toward the docks, Dawson asked, "Do you sail often?" "Not a lot," Heather said as she climbed up the stairs to the S.S. Eridanus (the name if the ship). "Only when..." "There you are!" a voice called from below deck. A young man emerged from the lower level. "What took you so long? Hmmm?" "I picked up a few new friends. Matt this is Dawson and Joey. Dawson, Joey this is Matt Lawrence. They'd like to go sailing so I offered them a sail. Dawson was the guy my dad wanted me to talk to. He's the reason we came here," Heather introduced them all. "Can't argue with that, now can I," Matt said a little sarcastically. "Hey aren't you related to Joey Lawrence?" Joey asked. "Actually I'm his younger brother. People always associate me with him," Matt said a little disappointed that she didn't know who he was. "Ready to sail?" He said trying to change the topic. They casted off and once they were cutting across the oceans waves Heather said, "Matt take the wheel while I go and change." "You don't need to change Heth, you're beautiful just the way you are," Matt replied. Heather blushed as she went below and said, "Joey would you mind coming down here with me and help with lunch?" "Of course," Joey said as she left Dawson's arms. They had been looking out across the ocean and talking about their new-found relationship. They hadn't really talked to their hosts but had kept to themselves for they were afraid of embarrassment since the two commanding the ship were famous. Down below the two girls talked of their hectic social life. Joey actually connected with Heather and she felt good about that. The only person who really seemed to understand her these days was Dawson. It was a relief to know that someone else could relate to her. Meanwhile up on deck, Dawson talked to Matt about Heather's dad. Matt would never say who he was but gave him a few hints as to who it was. Dawson had narrowed it down to either Spielberg or Cameron. He would have guessed Spielburg but the last clue just didn't fit. A tooth, Reeses' Pieces, and a big ship. "So figured it out yet?" a voice said interrupting Dawson's thoughts. Dawson looked up and saw Heather standing there in a blue bikini top and board shorts. Her whole outfit matched from the sunglasses on her head all the way down to the polish on her feet. He had to admit that she looked like she just stepped off the runway even though she was just wearing a bathing suit. He then slapped himself for being stimulated by another woman other than Joey. That's when Dawson saw it in her eyes. That look that he'd seen somewhere before. He couldn't exactly put his finger on it but somehow it was connected to Heather's father. "Earth to Dawson! Come in Dawson!" Joey called. "Lunch is ready." "How 'bout we anchor and have lunch on the beach?" Matt suggested. "Sounds absolutely fabulous," Heather replied. They anchored and went ashore. Joey was rather quiet during that time and Dawson couldn't help but notice it. He wondered if she had noticed him looking at Heather. But somehow... All during lunch Joey thought about Matt. It seemed rather odd that she thought about him and not Dawson. What does this mean? Did this mean she liked him? Sure he was cute and intelligent but he seemed involved with Heather. After lunch was over Matt said, "Heather would you and Dawson mind cleaning up while I go back to the boat?" "I don't mind. You?" Heather replied. "No, not at all," Dawson answered. "And Joey. Would you mind helping me load some of the things already packed into the boat?" Matt asked. Joey nodded her head in reply. Matt and Joey gathered up some stuff and set off to load it into the boat. "So...do you have any idea who my father is?" Heather said. When Dawson looked up he saw that look in her eyes again. "Not really. I mean the first two clues fit with the person I have in mind but the last..." "Yeah I know. That's how my dad wanted it to be. You see either you have the first two clues wrong or you have the last. It just depends on how you connect it all," Heather remarked. "Look just tell me who you think it is." "Alright I've narrowed it down to either Spielberg or Cameron. Are either one right?" Dawson replied rather hopeful of the answer. "You're right but I'm not going to tell you which one," she said rather teasingly. "Oh really," Dawson said moving closer to her. "And why not?" "Because this whole thing was a ploy to get you alone and learn about you," Heather saw Dawson's face go from shocked to confused. "I guess I should explain shouldn't I?" "Please do." "Okay. My dad wanted me to come down and invite you to dinner. I did that. He also wanted me to learn what you were as a person, not just as a film maker. Right now I'm trying to do that," Heather said moving closer to him. They were standing almost as close as most couples do when they dance. "Understand?" "Oh yeah," Dawson pulled her in close for a kiss. At first he thought she would pull away but once he got into it he really enjoyed kissing this beautiful girl that he'd just met. A picture of Joey flashed through his mind and he pulled away. "Dawson I..." "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to...I mean you and Matt and me and Joey...I'm sorry," Dawson replied apologetically. "No um...it's okay...I mean I liked it," Heather stammered. "And what's this about me and Matt?" "You and Matt are a couple. Right?" Dawson asked. Heather nearly died of laughter. "Me and Matt? That's just too funny. Matt's my brother. Why would you think?" Heather continued laughing. "I don't know maybe because you came here together. How's he your brother anyway?" "I was adopted when I was one. He's my real brother from my real family. I just recently found out I was adopted and I set out to find my parents. Of course I'm a lot closer to him than my other siblings due to the age and that we both love to sail. Even though I found my parents, in my heart they aren't my real parents. My real parents are the ones who raised me and not the ones who gave me up...," Heather's voice trailed off. "Dawson! Hello!?" Joey said. Dawson's detailed fantasy was brought to a screeching halt. He had kinda liked it. Another girl besides Joey that he connected with, the possibilities were endless. "As I was saying, you shouldn't have any trouble finding the place. Directions are on the back of that card and if you think you're going to have trouble just come and find me and I'll show you. Alright?" Heather explained. "Yeah, I got it," Dawson managed to get out. What am I doing, he thought. I'm over here literally drooling over this girl I barely even know while my girlfriend/best friend/lover is standing behind me. Somehow that fantasy seemed all to real. That kiss...and that look. He saw it in her eyes now too. What's with me? "Look I need to be going. I've got a lot more stops to make on this trip. I have to meet with someone else in Providence and then back in Boston. Oh could you hold on a sec, phone's ringing," Heather said as she took out her phone and started talking. "Hello? Alright. Yes I invited Leo. No Kate can't make it but Drew can. So can Jennifer and Will. Yes I checked with Arman and he can cater it. Dad, Lucy's already overladen with your chores. She doesn't need mine too. Yes I'll do them when I get home. Look I'm just finishing up here and then I have to go to Providence and then I'll be home. Fine Dad. You too. Bye," she finished her conversation and put the phone away. "I guess I will see you both on Friday then?" "Right. And thanks for inviting us," Dawson replied. "No prob. Look if you need anything, anything at all, then call me. Ok?" Heather told him. "Sure. See ya," Dawson said. He knew he'd call her eventually. Maybe not before Friday but definitely some time in the near future. He also knew that this wasn't the last time he'd see this beautiful enchantress but that their paths would cross again sometime. "Bye Dawson! See you on Friday. Bye Joey!" Heather said as she walked off. Joey waved back at this new found friend. She liked her and that was not something that was common among the female species. She liked and got along with very few women in this world. I guess it's just because she's easy to get along with, she convinced herself. "Ready?" Dawson asked, breaking Joey's train of thought. "Yeah. Let's go," Joey replied. And with that Dawson and Joey set out to have a perfect day on the waters. Neither of them knew of any of the troubles that awaited them on Friday. Neither knew.
