Friday, the day the I've been waiting for all week long. Pacey and Jen are going together (as friends) and Joey and me will be together. And then there was Heather. Every time I think of this day I think about her. Tonight I'll find out if these feelings for her are genuine or if they're just a romantic crush. Now if I can only figure out what to wear... Today is the day, Joey thought. It's 2:30 and Dawson will be picking me up in half an hour and we'll been in Boston by at least six. "Joey!!" Bessie called. "Now what?" Joey muttered. Joey walked into the bathroom prepared for Bessie to make her over. Bessie began to make Joey a star. From lipstick to mousse to blush. By the time Bessie was done with Joey, she looked gorgeous. Meanwhile at the Lindley's, Jen was getting ready for her night of fun. She was dressed in a tight black dress, which looked absolutely stunning on her, with her hair swept up in to a french twist held by hair combs with butterflies on them. She added a touch of lipstick and was ready to go. If this doesn't turn some heads then I don't know what will, she thought to herself. Pacey was dressed to the nines in a black tuxedo. He'd gotten some help on date etiquette from his mom and Deputy Doug. He held in his hand a corsage for Jen and stepped out of the door at 2:45. He was astounded at what he saw of Jen, a radiant, almost sexy woman. When Dawson reached Joey's, by way of boat, he found Bessie in the living room. Bessie called Joey down and as Joey stepped down the stairs, Dawson found himself gasping for air. She looked absolutely gorgeous in a sleeveless purple dress. "You two have fun now," Bessie said. "Stay out as late as you want." "Thanks Bess," Dawson said, giving Bessie a quick wink. Dawson and Joey left for Jen's where they would meet up with Pacey and Jen. When they arrived they found the two waiting outside on the porch for them. Dawson had to admit that Jen looked great in her dress and he knew that that's where the attraction ended. He would never be attracted to anyone by just their body, but by their mind as well. They all exchanged greetings and then they were off. They finally arrived at the Parker House, Boston's oldest grand hotel, and were received with a warm welcome from Heather. "Hello Dawson, Joey. I don't believe I know these two," Heather said in reference to Pacey and Jen. Heather was wearing a hunter green velvet dress, that complimented her eyes as well as her skin color. Her hair was pinned up in a bun with several wisps curled around her face. She was utterly breathtaking. "Oh uh this is Pacey and this is Jen," Dawson said trying to regain his composure. "Hello. It's nice to meet you, both of you," Heather said shaking both of their hands. "Please come in. You're a little early but that's ok. People are dancing on the dance floor and you're welcome to join them." "How about it Jo?" Dawson asked. "In a minute. I'm going to go freshen up first," Joey said as she headed in the direction of the powder room. "Wait, I'll come with you," Jen said following. The two girls walked off together. "It's nice to see you again Dawson. Have you figured it out yet? "Figured what?" Dawson said looking perplexed. "Hmmm let's see here. The three clues, the party, and...," Heather explained. "Your father. Oh yeah. Spielburg right?" Dawson asked. "I don't know. You'll find out for sure this evening when he presents an award," Heather remarked. Pacey noted this little scene going on and couldn't help but noticed how elegant and beautiful this girl was. How did she know Dawson? Was there something going on between the two? His thoughts were interrupted by an angelic voice. "Pacey, right?" Heather inquired. "Yeah," Pacey responded. "Would you care to join me on the dance floor?" Heather asked. "But of course," Pacey said with a bow. Pacey led Heather out onto the floor and he pulled her in close. He could smell her perfume and almost wished he was out here with Joey. Almost. Over the past couple of weeks he had grown rather fond of Joey's company and discovered she was very beautiful inside as well as on the outside, once she finally let him in. The band was playing a song he didn't really know but it was a slow song. When the song was over, Pacey felt a tap on his shoulder. "May I cut in?" Pacey heard someone say. Pacey turned around only to see Matt Damon standing in front of him. "Matt! You made it!" Heather exclaimed as she gave him a big hug. "Thanks for the dance Pacey." "Yeah, whatever," Pacey said storming off in the direction of Dawson, who was standing not far away from the dance floor. "She's a beauty, isn't she?" Dawson asked. "Oh yeah. That she is," Pacey said in agreement. "Almost makes me wish I didn't have a girlfriend. But don't you go repeating that," Dawson added. "Oh I won't. The only thing is that she's famous and everything and I'm just Joe-Schmo from Dullsville. She'd never want anyone like me," Pacey remarked. "But your the one she asked for a dance, not me. Look on the bright side...," Dawson's voice trailed off. Heather approached Dawson and said, "May I have this dance?" "Why certainly," Dawson replied casually, trying to contain his excitement. They walked hand in hand out onto the center of the floor and they began to dance. Pacey watched as Dawson leaned over and whispered something into her ear. He watched as she laughed and her pearly, white teeth shown. Was he falling for her? Or was it just a way to get over Joey? Pacey heard a gasp and spun around. There was Joey, literally in tears, trying to not be mad. Pacey's first instinct was to wrap his arms around her but then rethought that idea because Dawson would end up getting jealous and they would get into some kind of altercation. Joey turned and ran back into the powder room. Heather and Dawson? How could he? She had been so nice to Heather and this is how she repays her. Joey tried to regain her poise and went out to face the crowd. She looked out and saw that the two were no where to be seen. The voice on the loud speaker interrupted her thoughts. "May I have your attention please? I've been asked to sing a song written by a few friends of mine. This song is dedicated to my mother, who last year died of breast cancer. She was a very special woman and this song tells everything she was to me and everyone she knew. This is also dedicated to anyone who's ever lost a loved one," Heather explained. Breast cancer, Joey thought. Just like my mom. Maybe we have more in common than I originally thought. "If I'm gone when you wake up please don't cry and if I'm gone when you wake up it's not goodbye. Don't look back at this time as a time of heartbreak and distress. Remember me, remember me, 'cause I'll be with you in your dreams. I'll be with you. If I'm gone when you wake up please don't cry and if I'm gone when you wake up don't ask why. Don't look back at this time as a time of heartbreak and distress. Remember me, remember me, 'cause I'll be with you in your dreams. Don't cry I'm with you. Don't cry I'm by your side. Don't cry I'm with you. Don't cry I'm by your side. And though my flesh is gone, I'll still be with you at all times. And though my body's gone, I'll still be there to comfort you at all times. If I'm gone when you wake up please don't cry and if I'm gone when you wake up it's not goodbye. Don't look back at this time as a time of heartbreak and distress. Remember me, remember me, 'cause I'll be with you in your dreams. I don't want you to cry and weep. I want you to go on livin' your life. I'm not sleepin' an endless sleep 'cause in your heart you all have good times," Heather sang in a heavenly voice. After the song was over there was a long pause and then thunderous applause. Heather was beaming with tears forming in her eyes. Matt Damon, who was standing just off the stage ran out and gave Heather a hug and handed her a tissue. Together they walked off stage and into the arms of someone else who no one really saw. After the applause died down another man came up on stage and told everyone to be seated and that it was time to start. Dawson found Joey sitting in a corner and said, "What's the matter Jo?" "I don't know you tell me. I walk out and see you and her dancing. What am I supposed to think? You tell me," Joey ranted. "It was just an innocent dance," Dawson said, although he knew in his heart that it was much more than that. It was a symbol of everything he ever wanted out of anyone: beauty (not that it really mattered to him, it just helped some), grace, compassion, understanding, congeniality, humor, and, most importantly, love. The only problem was that Joey had those exact same qualities. He knew something had to be done, one way or the other. "Promise?" "Yes," he said knowing he was lying through his teeth. "Alright." Together they walked to where Jen and Pacey were sitting. The awards ceremony commenced. As they made their way through the awards, Dawson's thoughts drifted in and out between the ceremony and his life. "Finally our last two awards for the evening. I will be presenting the "Over-All Best Actor/Actress" award," Heather announced. "This award is given to one person who has displayed the best potential in the acting industry. The recipient is not a winner of an individual division award because the Board thought they deserved much better recognition. The winner receives a year of instruction and schooling in drama at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. The winner is...Josephine Potter." Joey couldn't believe what she was hearing. I didn't even know this award existed and even if I did I wouldn't have expected to win, she thought. But she won. As she made her way up onto the stage, she saw all of her friends applauding especially Dawson. He was grinning from ear to ear. She stood up there and shook Heather's hand and received her trophy along with a letter. Joey was then escorted off stage by a young man in a tuxedo. "I'd like to introduce the last award of the evening, the "Best-All-Around" of the Festival," a man said that Dawson immediately recognized as Steven Spielberg. "This award goes to the movie director whose film has best demonstrated all of the elements of film making. The recipient will receive a chance to work with me on an upcoming film. This award goes to the young man from Capeside, Massachusetts...Dawson Leery." The audience was filled with thunderous applause. Wow, Dawson thought. Working with Spielberg?? I don't think I'll be able to stand it just getting up there and shaking his hand, let alone working with him on a film. "Go on Dawson!" Pacey urged. Dawson made his way onto the stage and realized one person was missing and that was Joey. Where was she? Oh well, he thought. Joey didn't hear Dawson's name announced because she was too busy talking to the guy who escorted her off stage. He seemed vaguely familiar and she couldn't put her finger on it. "So Deborah when did you change your name to Josephine?" the guy said. "Ander...Anderson?" Joey stuttered. "In the flesh," Anderson remarked. "What are you doing here?" Joey sputtered out. "Well Joey it's really a long story. Heather called me and ask me to fill in as an usher 'cause Matt wasn't supposed to be here. Well Matt's here and I'm still stuck ushering," Anderson explained. "Heather seems to know a lot of different people. She's obviously friendly but she seems to have a evil side to her," Joey said. "Heather? Evil? Those two words don't even belong in the same sentence. She doesn't have an evil bone in her body," Anderson declared. "Oh," Joey said rather shameful that she brought it up. All of a sudden she didn't feel so good. "Well I'll see you," Joey said as she turned to walk off. "Wait! Here's my number and please call me. Ok?" Anderson pleaded. Joey just smiled, took the piece of paper, and walked off. As she made her way back toward the table she noticed that Dawson wasn't there. Where was he? She started to feel even more queasy as she sat down in her chair. Where did he run off to? Was he with her? Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice. "Joey what's the matter? You look kinda pale," Jen said looking concerned. "I don't feel so good," Joey said. "We should get you home before you get worse," Pacey replied also looking concerned. "No it's nothing really," Joey said protesting. "I don't think so Jo. Come along. We'll head on home and let Dawson and Pacey party all night. There's no reason for you to be out late if you're not feeling good. If there's one thing I learned from Grams, it's that," Jen said all the while tugging at Joey to leave. "Alright but let me say goodbye to Dawson first," Joey begged. Together they all went in search for Dawson. They found him talking to Steven Spielberg about his favorite movie, ET. "Pardon me for intruding but I need to speak with Dawson for just one minute," Joey she said as she pulled Dawson aside. "Dawson I'm not feeling too well and Jen has offered to take me home early. Alright?" "Well if your going then I'm going too," Dawson told her. "No. I wouldn't want to ruin your evening so you and Pacey just stay and go to the party. Ok?" Joey explained. "If that's what you want," Dawson said consentingly. Joey and Jen then proceeded to head on home. They boarded the boat and Joey wondered if she was doing the right thing. She really didn't want to discuss the possibility of her moving to New York for a year so she played sick. Oh well. Meanwhile at the Spielberg's, Dawson and Pacey were having a great time. Dawson found that Heather had quite a few friends, some famous and some not. He saw Jennifer Love Hewitt with her boyfriend Will Somebody from Boy Meets World, Leonardo DiCaprio, Drew Barrymore, and almost the whole cast of Friends and Party of Five. He couldn't believe he was here or that he'd just won a chance to work on a movie with his lifelong mentor, Steven Spielberg. "Penny for your thoughts," Heather's melodious voice said as it broke into Dawson contemplating. "Oh, I was just thinking how great it's going to be working with your dad," Dawson explained. "He's not that great. I mean I live with the man every single day of my life. You'll soon find he's rather demanding and a control freak," Heather said. "That won't matter. I practically worship him in a God-like way. Besides he probably doesn't even want to work with me as much as I want to work with him," Dawson said as he shrugged. "Well he's the one who set this whole thing up so I'd say he apparently wants to work with you. Never underestimate your potential Dawson. You'll end up wondering in the end if you should have done this or that and regret not doing it. Does that make any sense?" Heather asked. "Yeah it does. I'll remember that. Thanks," Dawson said. "Hey babe!!" a voice spoke up from behind Dawson. "Hey Leo! I'm glad you could make it, " Heather said with a smile. "Wouldn't miss it for the world. Dawson right?" Leonardo asked. "Yeah." Dawson answered. "Congratulations man. Although I've never gotten to work with Spielberg on a movie, I'm sure it'll be great since Heather will be around most of the time," Leonardo teased nudging Dawson in the shoulder. "Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll have an excellent time," Dawson said smiling at Heather. "Of course you will. Catch ya later Heather!" Leonardo said as he gave Heather a quick kiss and then walked off. "Sure," Heather replied. What am I doing, Heather thought to herself. Why do I have all these feelings for a guy I barely even know? Sure Dawson's cute and funny and sweet and intelligent but he's already taken. Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice. ""Heather? I've got to go. I've got to film tomorrow in Tokyo. My plane leaves in about an hour," Matt Damon said. "Bye. Thanks for coming. You don't know how much it means to me to have you here," Heather said giving him a quick kiss and a hug. Dawson notices all of this and come to grips that she might actually be involved with this young superstar. Maybe she doesn't even like me. Then I don't have to worry about telling Joey anything one way or the other. "So you and Matt a couple?" Dawson inquired not really knowing what to expect. "Me and Matt? I doubt it, I mean he's 27 and I'm 16. It wouldn't work anyway. But in spite of the age difference Matt's become my best friend over the past two years. When he and my dad worked on Good Will Hunting we spent a lot of time together. Our friendship only got stronger when he worked on Saving Private Ryan with my dad. He was there when my mom died and he's been absolutely wonderful to me," Heather explained. "Oh I was just wondering," Dawson shrugged. "It's okay. The media thought we were a couple long before you did. I got used to explaining our relationship," Heather replied. Pacey walked over arm in arm with Christina Ricci, "So Dawson doesn't this party royally rock?" Dawson looked over at Heather and said, "Oh yeah." Pacey glanced at his watch and realized that it was late, "Hey Dawson, what time were we supposed to be at the dock?" "Uh 11 o'clock, why?" "It's 11:30 man. We missed the boat." "Great, that's just great. How are we supposed to get home?" "Look guys if you don't mind leaving in the morning, you're welcome to spend the night here. We have plenty of room," Heather offered. "Maybe you forgot but the whole cast of the movie is staying over so they can get an early start in the morning," Christina reminded her. "Well then you'll just have to sleep in my room. It' s big enough. Come on I'll show you," Heather said. Heather led Pacey and Dawson toward her room. When they got there Dawson and Pacey were astounded at what the saw. Heather's room was at least twice the size of Dawson's. "You guys tired or do you want to party some more. It seems that everyone else is either getting ready to sleep or leaving," Heather asked. "I guess we can go to bed now," Pacey said. "Alright. If you want to take a shower then towels are in the closet in the bathroom. You guys can fight over who sleeps where. I've got to go talk to my dad really quick," Heather said as she excused herself. Pacey decided he'd sleep on the couch and Dawson would sleep on Heather's bed which was a king size. When Heather came back she had already changed. She was wearing an ivory tank with multi-colored flowers embroidered on it and what looked like a teeny thong-type panty to match. Both Pacey and Dawson were quite taken aback at this sexy side of Heather. "Sorry I forgot to get my boxers before I left. Here they are," Heather said as she picked up the shorts. "I hope you guys don't mind?" Both boys shook their head in answer. "I get up pretty early in the morning to go swimming. I hope you're sound sleepers and if not then I'm sorry. Of course you're welcome to join me if you like," Heather explained. "Maybe. Just depends," Pacey replied. Heather climbed into her bed and said goodnight to Pacey and then to Dawson. She rested her head on the pillow and sighed. What was she doing? I'm sleeping in my bed with an absolutely gorgeous guy and sharing my room with another. Do I like either of these guys? If so, how do I tell them. I'm not that good with guys. She remembered her last incident with a boyfriend. Oh well what comes of it comes, she decided. Dawson was having an internal struggle of his own. Joey or Heather? Which one? He was with Heather tonight and will be with Joey tomorrow. But Joey will be in New York for at least a year while he'll be here with Mr. Spielberg and Heather working on a movie. He finally decided what he wanted. Satisfied with the answer he fell into a peaceful slumber. Pacey was sleeping peacefully after the night's events. He got to dance with several Hollywood hotties and was now sleeping in the same room with a beautiful woman. What could be better? Meanwhile in Capeside, Joey was sleeping peacefully while all these events took place. There were no doubts in her mind of who she loved and there never would be. But what would become of her and Dawson? Even she couldn't answer that question.
